Frequently Asked Questions

Some things you should know

01.

What type of Facilities can request our services?

Residential, Commercial & Industrial are all available to us. this includes Roads, Water Mains and Railway lines

02.

How do we differentiate sites?

Our methods of risk evaluation are categories by type of site

03.

When are soil reports needed and not needed?

Each Lawful place accepts Fill and Solids at their own risk. Generally, there will be no mention of a soil report requirement until the material arrives at the gatehouse of a landfill for evaluation. Because of this, it will always be safer to organise Pre-Approval with a Lawful Place in order to determine if any report is needed prior to transport. In addition, EPA Framework suggests that Green Field locations (such as parks, new subdivisions & residential estates) are more likely to be optional for soil assessment whereas Brown Field Locations (Industrial & Commercial Enterprises) will often be more mandatory for the submission of one for assessment, prior to approval

04.

What are our methods for determining costs?

We work within the framework of the new EPA Act 2017 ‘Cost: Compliance (ratio) Model. From this we will assess each site separately and offer out varying options from low-cost to high-cost NATA Accredited sampling test costs, alongside this we will endeavour to approximate assurances of Waste Approval Acceptance Likelihood based on proximity to minimum sampling density targets. In addition, our payment for services rendered is a flat rate likely to reside around 20 per cent of the cost of sampling. Although we are able to negotiate cost-saving alternatives should they like to be discussed upon initial survey or quoting

05.

What are our timeframes and criteria for acceptance of work ?

Every project we take is accepted on a case-by-case basis. To uphold testing integrity, we uphold limits on how many projects we are allowed to undertake at any one given time. If a job site is accepted by ourselves, our services will be straight away and will conclude within one to two days from the return of the test results (within the work week if URGENT testing rates are applied by the NATA Accredited laboratory of choice

06.

Will all tests be NATA Accredited?

The default testing curriculum is to have all tests be NATA Accredited. Upon request, this can be subsided. However, reporting of the non-affiliated NATA Accreditation will be highlighted in the reports ‘limitation’ section

07.

What is our privacy and confidentiality policy regarding soil and waste evaluation?

Testing material will always pose the risk of contaminated material being identified, and as such will the costs of disposal and proficiency of tests required are likely to increase. We will not perjure ourselves should material present intended for Fill Disposal possess contaminated waste type “hotspots” that need to be segregated for Contaminated Soils transport. However, our services are to the full confidence of the clients we represent. Once a report has been created, and should the client not wish to pursue the initiation of waste transport service liaising. The project between Insight Environmental Services and the Client will conclude, and the record of that report will not be provided to any external companies without prior consent from the project manager to disclose commercial or environmentally sensitive information.

08.

What are the common soil contamination risks to arise in everyday projects?

No two jobs are ever similar, Residential, Commercial and Industrial job sites all have a possibility to expose contamination concerns. Prior history of property use is the number one factor to the exposure of unforeseen contamination concerns arising. What contamination types are most suspected will comprise what specific contaminants a tested for. To name a few, Naturally Elevated Minerals, TRH (Hydrocarbons), PFAS impacted Soils, ACM (Asbestos Containing Material) and WASS (waste acid sulphate rocks/soils) are the most prevalent to occur but will only be best tested when they are most suspected to be present

09.

How much does sampling roughly cost ?

Testing varies quite dramatically depending on the amount of volume to be moved and is based on IWRG702 Soil Sampling Guidelines. In most circumstances for residential and water main job sites, 10 tests are most suitable with 3-5 being a typical minimum. How much these tests cost depends on what contaminant types were selected for testing. Quotes will always be offered before tests are delivered to the laboratory. For small jobs, costs will vary between $500 to $3,000 AUD and will include a small fee for the report itself
